Candidate Biographies

Darrin Canniff

Darrin has been a member of the Credit Union since 2005 and has been on the Mainstreet (and previously Unigasco) Board of Directors for approximately 8 years.  Darrin has served on the Audit and Governance Committees and has had the opportunity to Chair both of these Committees as well as currently serving as the Vice-Chair for the Board.  Darrin has also completed the CUDA (Credit Union Director Achievement) program requirements as well as the Chartered Directors program through McMaster University and has met the Director's competency and training requirements.  Darrin is currently a Municipal Councillor for Chatham-Kent and has also been on the Board of Entegrus Inc. for 13 years and held the position as Board Chair.  Darrin has his CPA designation, is currently employed as the CFO for Transform SSO and has held previous positions as Controller for Greenfield Ethenol and Director, Budget & Planning for Union Gas.  Darrin would like to continue to utilize his skills and abilities to improve and expand the overall service experience that Mainstreet provides to its' members.

Patrick O'Malley

Patrick is the current Chairperson of the Mainstreet Board of Directors.  He has been a member of the Credit Union since 2005, and a member of the Board since 2011.  In addition to the role of Board Chair, he also served as the Audit Committee Chair for many years.  He has met all of the Director's competency and training requirements. Patrick is a Certified Public Accountant and has a Bachelor of Math and Masters of Science in Health Administration and he has held the past positions of CEO at Lambton County Developmental Services and Director of Finance at Bluewater Health. He is also involved in his local community, currently serving with the St. Michael's Knights of Columbus.  With his past experience on Mainstreet's Board and his involvement throughout the mergers, Patrick feels he can continue to add great value to the Board and represent the members' interests.  His experience as Board Chair for the past 4 years has given him an appreciation for the challenges the Credit Union faces.

Richard Faber

Richard has been a member of Mainstreet (formerly Sydenham) Credit Union since 2004.  He is currently President of Faber Management Services, providing management support services to various organizations.  Prior to that, he was the Director of Administration as well as the Director of Financial Planning for the City of London, Ontario.  His board governance experience includes 10 years on the OMERS Board (a $95+billion Pension Plan), where he served as Chair of the Investment/Human Resources/Audit Committees.  Richard also served on the boards for Bluewater Family Services, London-Middlesex Children's Aid Society and the Grand Bend Area Health Centre.  Richard is a Chartered Director (The C. Dir. designation from McMaster University, through the Degroote School of Business). He also received his accounting training from the Society of Management Accountants, a Master Degree from Tyndale University and a graduate Diploma in Public Administration from Western University.  Richard is seeking election to one of the four Board positions in order to support the Board of Directors and Mainstreet Credit Union in achieving its strategic objectives and goals in serving its Owners, as he strongly believes in the credit union service and business model.

Stephen Kay

Stephen has been a member of the Credit Union since 2009 and a member of the Mainstreet (and previously Unigasco) Board of Directors for approximately 8 years.  Stephen has served on both the Governance and Audit Committees and is currently the Chairperson of the Audit Committee.  He has an excellent understanding of financials and risk management and has met the Director's competency and training requirements.  He is also currently serving as a Board Member, Treasurer and Past Vice-Chair of the YMCA's of Southwestern Ontario, is an active participant in Helping Hands in Action campaigns supporting the United Way, and has past board experience with the Chatham Ringette Association as well as Kidstuff Daycare & Family Learning Centre in Chatham.  Stephen is a Professional Engineer and currently holds the position of Manager, Distribution Business Development, with Union Gas with previous positions in Product & Process Development and Capacity Management & Utilization.  He is also a graduate of the Canadian Institute of Financial Planning, Certified Financial Planner academic program, and the Canadian Securities Institute, Canadian Securities program.  Stephen is passionate about helping improve members' financial lives by supporting and enhancing Mainstreet's delivery of outstanding products and services.

Tyler Damen

Tyler has been a member of the Credit Union for approximately 8 years.  Tyler is a Doctor of Chiropractic with an Honours Degree, Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, and is the Owner/Operator of Damen Optimal Health Team in Parkhill and Strathroy.  In addition, he is the Owner and Secretary of TAP Storage Inc. and the Owner/President of a real estate holding company.  Tyler is also very involved in his community.  He is the Founder and President of the Chiros Care Foundation who organize the Casino Strathroyale to raise funds for local families battling cancer.  In addition to being a former Optimist member, he has also been a member of the Board for the Chamber of Commerce and the Strathroy Rockets.  Tyler is excited to be considered for the position of Director on the Mainstreet Board and would like to further his personal growth through board experience, learning from like-minded individuals and continued involvement in the community.

Wayne Passmore

Wayne has been a member of the Credit Union for over 25 years and was originally a member of the Unigasco Credit Union in the Chatham region.  Wayne is a professional engineer and is currently employed as an Economic Development Manager with Union Gas Ltd. and has also held positions in Business Development, Strategic Product Development and Strategic Business Management.  He is the current President and Director of the Blenheim Masonic Community Hall, an active member of the Blenheim Shrine Club and an Officer of the Blenheim Masonic Lodge.  He has worked within many local volunteer organizations providing leadership and strategic guidance.  He is also a long standing volunteer Hunter Education and Firearms Safety Instructor.  As a long-time member and supporter of Mainstreet, he is excited by the growth and changes over the last number of years and he wants to ensure that the Credit Union continues to evolve and respond to the changing needs of our members well into the future.  He brings an entrepreneurial mind and a business background, with a history in farming and helping community-based groups serve their constituents and members.
